Because of your hard work, the Planning Commission voted 4-1 last night to RECOMMEND that the City Council DENY the Rancho La Habra developer’s request for a change from Open Space to Residential. This was an important FIRST STEP on the path to protect our Open Spaces. The City Council will make its FINAL decision in a couple of weeks.

Developers often use this time to tweak their concessions just enough to win approval at the final City Council meeting. Unfortunately, many city councils fall victim to these tactics and reverse Planning Commission decisions, thinking they got a “better deal”. We don’t want that to happen here, which is why all of us NEED TO PRESS FORWARD to remind the City of our overwhelming opposition to the project. We believe the most important factor in this debate has been that we are all speaking with one voice on this issue: to PROTECT our OPEN SPACES!

We need your help in these next couple of weeks with THREE items:

  1. If you haven’t signed our petition at savelahabra.com/petition, please do, and ask your friends and neighbors to sign as well.

  2. Watch our page for the final City Council meeting date and further updates.

  3. Vote YES on Measure X to protect our Open Spaces, and tell your friends and neighbors about it too! You’re going to be seeing a lot of confusing scare tactics from the developers saying that Measure X is about putting Indian Casinos and State Homeless Shelters on the golf course. None of this is even remotely true. Once Measure X passes, no Open Space in La Habra can be taken away, for any reason, without a VOTE OF THE PEOPLE.

On behalf of all the volunteer organizers of Save La Habra, thank you so much for your support. Without your help, last night’s first-step win would not have been possible.
